There were years through high school and for a long decade after when getting through the day was the whole job. What carried me wasn’t luck or willpower. It was eight people.

Eight, out of the many who passed through my life, who made the time. Some sat with me. Some checked in when I’d gone quiet. Some simply refused to let me disappear.

Eight of them. And me. Nine.

That’s the name. DineByNine is a standing invitation to a table I’d set for them every year if I could — and a promise that every product we make, every order we send, is a way of honouring what they gave me. Part of that is looking outward: helping the next generation find their way through their own inner demons, the way I found mine.
